Hamilton County Parks and Recreation
Coxhall Park and Gardens, the long-time residence of Jesse and Beulah Cox, was donated to Hamilton County, Indiana in 1999. Cripe was hired as the lead design consultant to develop a master plan of this 125-acre estate.
The goal of this project was to develop a master plan to increase public awareness of art and history and encourage family
enjoyment and to connect this park with the Hamilton County Trail System. The master plan consisted of a European formal garden as a focal element enveloped by ornate specialty gardens. The formal garden incorporated sight lines relative to destinations, such as decorative water features and plantings, bell towers, and gazebos, all which serve as landmarks to guide visitors through the site. The master plan ultimately combined design principles drawn from the Italian Renaissance, English picturesque and European garden design upon which the then-existing Coxhall grounds were based.
