Like many new administrations, the City of Lawrence, Indiana was faced with the need to cut costs and reduce spending. One of the areas initially targeted for savings was in addressing the city’s annual energy spend. As part of a grant from the Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2008, Lawrence was able to create a road map for sustainability. Cripe Energy & Facilities Advisors were brought in to help create a comprehensive investment-grade energy audit to develop a list of energy conservation opportunities. During the initial audit, Cripe recognized there was significant opportunity for savings by developing a natural gas purchasing strategy. Cripe solicited bids from multiple sources and secured Lawrence a multi-year, fixed-rate contract, that allowed the city to save 39% from their current rate.
