DePauw University Bottoms Alumni & Development Center
Civil Engineering, Land Surveying
The project included the surveying and civil engineering design of the new Robert G. Bottoms Alumni and Development Center at DePauw University. This building will serve as the new front door for the returning DePauw Alumni as well as the career development center for existing students. The Alumni and Development Center was a renovation and addition to an empty existing and overgrown Greek housing building. In addition to the building renovation and addition, the project also included provisions for new accessible entrances, improvements to stormwater management, an outdoor event space, and improvements to adjacent parking and sidewalks.
Typical to many redevelopment projects, stormwater management provided some challenges in light of insufficient local storm sewers and outlet points. Cripe coordinated with the City of Greencastle to find a design that provided sustainable elements desired by DePauw University and meeting as many of the City drainage requirements as feasible within the site constraints of this location. Stormwater management includes use of permeable pavers and subgrade detention beneath the event patio to address stormwater quantity, and a combination of sumps and a biowswale to address stormwater quality.
