DePauw University Charter House Parking Demo and Parking Lot

The project included the surveying and civil engineering design services for the demolition of Charter House administration building and provision of a new surface parking lot in the vicinity of demolished building. The lot is located at the corner of Locust Street and Seminary Street in Greencastle Indiana. The project provides parking for the University as well as for Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church. Parking layout accommodated future master planning of this area as well as adherence and coordination of design standards regarding sidewalks, site elements, and landscaping by DePauw University
Typical to many redevelopment projects, stormwater management provided some challenges considering insufficient local storm sewers and outlet points. Cripe coordinated with the City of Greencastle to find a design that provided sustainable elements desired by DePauw University while meeting as many of the City drainage requirements as feasible within the site constraints of this location. Stormwater management includes use of a shallow subgrade detention system beneath the parking lot to address stormwater quantity and quality.
