DePauw University Christian Center for Diversity and Inclusion
Civil Engineering, Land Surveying
The project included the surveying and civil engineering design of the new Center for Diversity and Inclusion on the campus of DePauw University. The new two-story building is home of the Association of African American Students House (AAS House) and the Dorothy Brown Cultural Center (DBC Center). The site is located on the west end of campus along the main Hanna Street corridor. Cripe worked with Ratio in the layout of the site including the outdoor patio, pedestrian sidewalks and access, rear vehicular access and parking, and a half basketball court.
A particular challenge associated with the development of this site included coordination of drainage design with the City of Greencastle in light of the existing drainage challenges in this area. The drainage design incorporates a combination of dry detention and subgrade detention via storage within the stone base beneath the permeable paver drive and parking.
