Cripe provided topographic survey and civil engineering services on the transformational project for the Ivy Tech Muncie Campus. Construction plans included renovating the Fisher building’s basement, first and fourth floor, renovating the Cowan Road campus, and the Ball Building at the Old Star Press Location. John & Janice Fisher Building is home to the Schools of Nursing, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Business, and Education along with academic support and library services; providing innovative learning spaces, including improvements to science and health labs to meet current instructional needs. The George & Frances Ball Building contains the Culinary School, Chesterfields Cafe, administration, testing and assessment, advising and enrollment services. The Ball Building provides an opportunity for these services in one location thus making it easier for students to find and access important services. Outside of downtown, the Cowan Road North Instructional Center renovation increases the capacity for the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Engineering and brings together technology-related majors. This expansion helps prepare students for careers in manufacturing, welding, HVAC, robotics, automotive and construction industries.
The Ball Building site was a full development of the site beginning with the demolition of the existing building and location and identification of the significant utility corridors through this site that serviced a significant portion of the City of Muncie. Cripe worked hand in hand with the architect, landscape architect, mechanical, electrical, telecommunication, and plumbing engineers in coordination with the Owner to bring the renovations to Fisher and Cowan and new construction at Ball Building to fruition. Fisher and Cowan renovations resulted in site modifications and utility relocations to accommodate the renovated building footprints and programming. Cripe coordinated with local jurisdictions and utilities to address requirements for serving the site. Stormwater management was coordinated with the City of Muncie to confirm compliance with the recent stormwater infrastructure projects. Project coordination and communication was essential to the success of this project.
