Johnson Memorial Health Medical Office Buildings
Architecture, Civil Engineering, Land Surveying
Johnson Memorial Health continues their plan to expand along U.S. Highway 31 south of Indianapolis. Their newest facilities are the Whiteland and Greenwood Medical Office Buildings consisting of a primary care office with a supporting tenant space to be leased separately. The design uses brick to establish the main anchoring mass for the building along with a precast identity wall which attracts the eye with its mass and strong horizontality. A unique entry canopy ties the two distinct building materials together and creates an exciting visual signature along U.S. 31. The project employs acid etched glass to allow natural light into perimeter rooms while maintaining visual privacy. Sunscreens making use of passive solar design concepts, control light entry into the building on a seasonal basis, allowing sunlight access during winter months. Direct sun increases heat gain and apparent warmth during cold weather. During the summer, the screens block the sun reducing heat gain. The building is approximately 10,000 square feet, half of which is dedicated medical office and the balance tenant space.
