Lakes of Valparaiso
Architecture
Garmong Construction Services retained Cripe to provide design for the Lakes of Valparaiso Shell building in Valparaiso, Indiana. The building area is approximately 82,000 square feet constructed in a Planned Urban Development east of downtown Valparaiso. The development concept is unique in that the developer works with city government to supply land, owning the building until construction is complete. Once construction is done, the building is sold to the city while both entities pursue leasing possibilities until a final tenant is identified and takes over the building. The result is job creation for the community; typically skilled, high paying jobs. The building is also designed to be expanded to the east increasing the net area roughly twenty percent if so needed by a potential tenant.

The approach to the design presents a sleek, proportioned appearance using precast concrete panels for the main body of the building and unique materials at the entrance. The west and east facing facades at the northwest entry are insulating translucent panels with a slight bluish tint. Curtainwall completes the balance of the entry facades on the north and south, again with a blue tinted glass while the main body of the building is white with a warm grey accent band running around the building’s perimeter at the same elevation as the exterior windows. A bright red entry canopy accents the main entrance to complete the composition. Functionally a recessed truck dock is provided on the north with an at grade overhead door to allow direct truck access to the interior when needed. Sectional overhead doors at the recessed dock are provided.
