  • Personal

Oftentimes, I describe myself as the luckiest person you will ever meet. My mother was a stay-at-home mom, my father was an IPL meter reader, I had 2 older brothers, we lived on a street with 77 kids, I went to IPS Schools 68, 92 and Arlington High School and life was nearly perfect. I was able to get a scholarship and attend DePauw University, where I met my wife of 50 years, Cathy Musk-Southerland. Cathy was the first person to ever go on a second date with me. I was able to play 4 years of Division III college football, and we beat Wabash 3 of 4 seasons!  After graduation, I was a social worker for the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) where I met some of the best people I will ever know. The people I met at CYO are critically important to my life at CRIPE, today. Cathy and I have 5 adult children and 12 grandchildren, all healthy and happy.  I joined Al Oak and CRIPE in November 1986, 35 years ago, and the ride has been wonderful. My hobby is napping, and I am an award winning “napper” as I can take a nap anytime, anyplace.
